REQUEST A PRIVATE CONVERSATION

Four generations of my family have called Southern Africa home.

I grew up with salt on my skin, dust on my boots, and wide horizons shaping my understanding of the world. Long before I founded Visitors to Africa, these landscapes were already shaping my values: respect for nature, responsibility to community, and the belief that a well-designed journey can quietly change a life.

Over the past 30 years, I have personally guided and hosted guests for more than 6,000 days in the field. I have visited over 200 of Southern Africa’s finest lodges and reserves. My work has been almost entirely referral-based — serving presidents, royalty, multi-generational families, global entrepreneurs, and those who value privacy above publicity.

Access, discretion, and deep local intelligence are not add-ons. They are the foundation.

When clients travel with me, they do not experience Africa as tourists. They experience it as trusted guests.

PROVEN LEADERSHIP IN
THE WORLD’S MOST EXTREME
FRONTIERS

THE FIRST PRIVATE
AIRCRAFT LANDING
FOR TOURISTS IN

ANTARCTICA — 2001

In December 2001, long before experiential travel became fashionable, I led a historic mission that placed me on the front page of international press.
I conceived, structured, and personally led the first private aircraft expedition to land tourists on Antarctic ice.
Aircraft logistics. On-ice safety protocols. Government permissions. Remote medical planning. Every detail was engineered in one of the harshest environments on earth.
At a time when others hesitated, we executed.
That expedition redefined what was possible in ultra-remote exploration and remains a milestone in high-end travel history.
The same mindset — thoughtful risk assessment, disciplined logistics, and visionary leadership — underpins every journey I design today.

JOHN’S LIFE-SAVING AWARD

For a decade, your safety was my top priority.

From 1986 to 2001, I headed up and ran Air and Sea Rescue operations in South Africa, logging more than 3,750 hours of rescue service and completing  250 actual life saving rescues—for which I was formally honoured by the Mayor of Cape Town. For 15 years I led teams at accident scenes on mountain, sea, and coastline, making critical decisions under extreme pressure when lives were on the line.

That background shapes everything I do today.

Every Antarctica and African journey I design is built on the same principles: rigorous preparation, conservative risk management, clear contingency planning, and calm, decisive leadership in any situation. When you travel with me, you’re not only experiencing the pinnacle of ultra‑luxury and access, you’re placing yourself and your family in the hands of someone who has spent a lifetime taking responsibility for other people’s lives when it mattered most.”

Service Before Status

Understanding Legacy Beyond Travel Beyond travel, I have spent more than 25 years structuring real-asset investments across hospitality, wine estates, safari lodges, property developments, and alternative assets.
As a third-generation wealth architect, I understand the expectations of sophisticated global families — privacy, time efficiency, security, and generational thinking.

For a decade, I led voluntary Air and Sea Rescue services in South Africa, accumulating more than 250 rescue hours.

That experience forged something deeper than skill — it created a permanent sense of responsibility for those in my care.

I have also supported initiatives such as the Songo Foundation in Stellenbosch, donating infrastructure that now serves as a thriving educational hub for underprivileged youth.

True success is measured not by what we accumulate — but by what we leave behind.

THE JOURNEYS I DESIGN ARE NOT SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL.
THEY ARE WORTHY OF YOUR FAMILY’S STORY.

NELSON MANDELA

How about this next to the video of President Mandela

Being in the same room as President Nelson Mandela is to feel history, grace, and unimaginable strength breathe around you. He doesn’t enter a room; he changes its temperature. In the quiet moments before he speaks, there is a stillness I have only ever felt in sacred places—an awareness that you are standing in the presence of a man who carried a nation’s pain and its hope, and somehow chose forgiveness.

I was privileged to meet President Mandela several times with my guests—celebrities, sporting greats, people accustomed to the spotlight—yet in his presence, every ego fell silent. All that remained was respect, humility, and a kind of childlike awe. On one unforgettable occasion, I found myself in the same room with both President Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu—two moral giants whose courage and humanity reshaped South Africa and inspired the world. To have stood there, quietly in the background, arranging the logistics while witnessing that moment, is one of the greatest honours of my life. I will carry the weight and warmth of his presence with me, always”

WHY I STILL GUIDE PERSONALLY

Why I Still Lead Journeys Myself

Even as my work expanded into investments and advisory roles,

I continue to personally design — and often lead — select journeys

.

Because there is nothing comparable to:

• Watching a family fall silent at their first lion sighting.
• Seeing a teenager rediscover wonder under an African night sky.
• Hearing the words: “This changed how we see the world.”

These are not holidays. They are chapters in a family’s legacy.

PERSONAL NOTE

I do not offer packaged experiences

If we work together, it begins with a private conversation — quiet, thoughtful, and discreet — about what truly matters to you and your family.
